My Wife

for Tara, whom I could not thrive without
swiftonsecurity.com on BlueSky asks:
How would you describe the person you're infatuated with? I ask because I think we are cowed into limiting the full vocabulary of our emotion. And I so rarely hear it. Without name, what is your description of why you love?
My wife is a force of nature. She owns any room she walks into. Not because of her stunning beauty, but because of her omega level mutant ability to engage with other humans.
Every person she meets without fail says some version of “I just feel so comfortable talking to you.”
And she loves me back
She is an extreme empath, and has a limited amount of social energy. Being around people drains her battery because she cannot help but hear everyone.
And be thoughtful of everyone.
And be there for everyone.
She seems extroverted but she prefers to be at home in bed.
Next to me.
She has a preternatural relationship with animals and they feel the same way.
In a word now owned by the youth, her aura out shines all.
But not for her. For those around her.
For our children and dogs the most.
And I get to be at the center of it with her.
She takes calls at any hour from those who might seek to take their own life, because she has been there, and she’ll tell you all about it. Not for her. For you.
She joins every board she can, not for her resume, but to help.
And I get to bring her ice water at night.
She’s frightening in beauty, presence, and temper. She’ll fight for you and you’ll be lucky for it.
She cries with each client she visits, because no one hears them and knows their troubles. She does.
She cried with me this week, because we are together in ours.
I’m lucky in love.
